About the Developing After School Leadership (DASL) Institute

The Developing After School Leaders (DASL) Institute promotes an understanding of one’s own personal leadership qualities and provides a working knowledge of how to lead a team to achieve greater results in their after school programs.

DASL aims to develop a well-trained after school management staff that will enable them to lead effective programs that ultimately will positively impact youth.

Strategy to Developing After School Leaders

DASL focuses on providing the skills necessary for leadership staff to become proficient in understanding and applying key competencies in their own programs. The DASL institute  further explores the qualities and tasks associated with management, supervision, and leadership roles in after school educational programs. Emphasis is placed on understanding leadership styles, differentiating between the skills and various roles of leaders and managers, and developing the skills needed to be an effective leader/supervisor.

The leadership institute is designed for after school staff that supervises after school staff. Forty participants will be chosen from existing after school programs in Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. Four two-day sessions and two one day practicums, from October 2008 through April 2009, will be offered alternately in varied locations throughout the region.

Cost

Cost for this institute is $300 per participant. This will help defray the cost of food and materials for all six sessions.
